A service-learning program for participants from around the Jewish world and their Israeli peers, LIFE begins with a training and learning period of three weeks in Israel. You then engage in internships and learning in India for four months, afterwards returning to Israel for an internship and learning period of similar length. Internships are tailor-made to suit your interests and future directions. LIFE internships are professionally – rather than direct service - oriented and involve you in program development, capacity building, program evaluation or policy. Through them you will advance a social justice agenda through change-making programs in one of the diverse fields our partner agencies work in. Through training, top-level learning and reflecting on your work, you will develop your social vision and your leadership abilities. You will live with, learn from and work to advance the interests of people in weak and vulnerable situations in a developing country and in Israel. LIFE offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience and explore the ever-deepening connections between local and global social justice.

Each year, JUF sends college graduates from the Chicagoland area to participate in OTZMA. OTZMA participants spend three months – December, January and February – volunteering in the Partnership 2000 Region. They live in JUF’s P2K volunteer house that is available (in coordination with JUF staff) to adult volunteers who work in the region for a minimum of one week. OTZMA is a service-based leadership development program offering young adults, aged 20-26, the unique opportunity to contribute and to acquire an in-depth understanding of Israel and the Jewish people.
OTZMA participants work and learn in three consecutive and distinct tracks including immigrant absorption, urban renewal, social service work experiences and kibbutz. Throughout the ten months (September-June) they interact with people of diverse backgrounds throughout the country including three moths in JUF's Partnership 2000 Region. The three tracks are woven together by an educational program where participants delve deeply into both the history and contemporary life of Israel and the Jewish people.
