The Strongest Link ChallengeThe Strongest Link Challenge
Care about Israel? Want to make a change in your local community with the chance to win up to $500 in gift certificates? The Strongest Link Challenge will allow you to combine these great things into one awesome and unique experience! The Hillel Foundation at the University of Illinois presents The Strongest Link Challenge: an entrepreneurship competition, which seeks to encourage students to connect local businesses—including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign colleges and departments—with Israeli businesses, universities and non-profit organizations. The competition seeks to facilitate a stronger commitment between Hillel students and the Champaign-Urbana community, as well. The competition is open for teams of up to four students (individuals applying will be judged evenly) who plan and execute an idea that connects an Israeli business, college, or organization to a local business, college, or organization in the Champaign-Urbana area in a way that benefits both communities. Examples for such connections can be bringing Israeli products to local C-U businesses and vice versa, creating joint research opportunities between U of I and Israeli academic units, getting Israeli environmental and other technologies to C-U, creating cooperation between C-U and Israel non-profits, and so on. The Strongest Link Challenge will accept applications on a rolling basis until March 7th 2011 at Midnight. Each team’s progress will be evaluated first after their initial application is received and two more times throughout the competition. After the submission of the final progress report, selected individuals from sponsoring institutions will judge projects. The three most successful and influential project entries will win up to $500 in gift cards (final announcement of the prize will be given on March 8th, 2011). Criteria to win the competition include, but are not limited to, creativity, connectivity, rates of success, and community advancement. Participants should demonstrate how their ideas could embed Israeli technologies, ideas, or products into university departments and colleges, as well as local businesses and organizations. The Hillel Foundation will remain engaged with the entry participants throughout this process by providing supervision and mandating progress reports (a total of three), including a final, inclusive business report that explains the business plan and all progress that was made for the entry to be implemented.
