Shabbat @Hillel
Every week, between 85 and 150 or more students join together at the Cohen Center for Jewish life for student-led Reform, Conservative and Orthodox Friday evening Shabbat services followed by a FREE dinner. Often there are special celebrations such as Greek Shabbat, Homecoming Shabbat or Black and White Shabbat. Hillel also hosts weekly Orthodox Saturday morning services, and, often monthly Egalitarian Saturday monring services. All services are followed by a free lunch - no reservations required. Students also come together every Saturday afternoon/evening for an informal se'udah shlishit ("Third meal") and havdallah. For a schedule of services, please visit our calendar of events. Friday Night Shabbat Dinners Following Friday Shabbat services at Hillel, students join together for a delicious, FREE Kosher meal with vegetarian option, supervised by the CrC. Dinner is usually served in a mix of family-style and buffet, with people seated at round or rectangular tables complete with table cloths and flowers. Everyone is welcome to attend only services, only dinner or both, and may dress as he or she chooses. The menu includes: A delicious main course (usually chicken, sometimes turkey or brisket) Freshly made soup Stupendous sides Salad with homemade salad dressings Fresh-made Challah Dessert Our free Shabbat dinners are generously sponsored by the Takiff Family Foundation and the First Bank of Highland Park Foundation. |
