Welcome to Urbana-Champaign! Check-in, get your name tag, and start
meeting new people. We will play a few
ice-breakers to get to know each other before Shabbat starts while everyone
makes their way to the Hillel.
5:30pm Friday Best
Time to get ready to greet the Sabbath
Bride. Take a shower and
change before returning back to Hillel for a meaningful community Shabbat.
6:30pm Shabbat Shalom!
Conservative, or an Orthodox minyan (prayer group). Try something you haven’t before and see how
the Illini welcome Shabbat!
7:30pm “B’tayavon!” (Bon appetit!) Enjoy a full course meal with dessert! Here’s your chance to get to know your new
friends better over a hot and delicious dinner prepared by our own chef!
9:00pm Oneg (Snacking and schmoozing) Enjoy some
light, post-meal, refreshments over a relaxed discussion on “Community” and discuss
Jewish life on your campus. Learn how
different Hillels celebrate holidays differently and share traditions. After, have a chance to just hang-out or play
10:30pm Lilah Tov (Good night) Wrap up the day with some quick reflections
and discuss plans for Saturday. Then
have a chance to keep relaxing or “hit the hay.”
*8:45am “Boker tov!” (Good morning!) Rise and shine and get some breakfast
before the day begins!
*9:30am “Services” Have the chance to attend a morning Shabbat
service. Try out the joint
Reform/Conservative minyan or the Orthodox minyan! A time for personal reflection and connection
10:30am Parashat haShavua (Torah Portion
of the Week – Tazria) Discuss the themes related to the week’s
Torah portion. Learn what the Torah has
to say this week and discuss your own interpretation of it.
11:30am Take a Breather Have some down time to sit and relax with
friends before Kiddush.
12:00pm Kiddush Sanctify the Sabbath over some grape juice
12:30pm Topic TBD Participate in an open discussion with
Rabbi Naftali Rothstein.
1:00pm Lunch! After a great morning, enjoy another meal! Sit
back, relax, and EAT!
2:30pm Chillage Choose between taking a nice Shabbat walk
around campus, play board-games, or sit and talk! This is your chance to enjoy the relaxation
that makes Shabbat so special.
4:30pm Discussion Round 1 Choose between a discussion on a few topics, to be determined. Interested in leading something? Contact Ari or Jessica.
5:30pm Discussion Round 2 Choose between a discussion on a few topics, to be determined. Interested in leading something? Contact Ari or Jessica. 6:30pm Mincha (The afternoon service) Optional Shabbat afternoon
7:00pm Seuda Shlishit (The Third Meal) On Shabbat it is a mitzvah to eat three
meals. Enjoy some more food and
8:00pm Havdalah (A Separation) It is time for us to part with the joy and
relaxation that is Shabbat. Come
together as a one big community for a meaningful Havdalah service.
9:00pm “Ice, Ice, Baby” It time to go ice-skating and play some
broomball! Walk over to U of I’s ice arena and cool off with
friends. Skate rental is $1. Broomball is free.
11:00pm “Lilah Tov!” Keep hanging out or have the chance to go
to sleep. It’s up to you!
11:00am Bagel Brunch Enjoy bagels with all the fixings! Cream cheese, lox, tomatoes, and more!
12:00pm “L’hitraot” (See ya later!) Reflect on the
weekend and find ways to stay in touch with all the new friends you have
