The Margie K. and Louis N. Cohen Center for Jewish Life , home of Hillel at the University of Illinois, is designed to meet both current and anticipated needs of our students. The entire Hillel movement began at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Over 80 years later, Hillel has touched the lives of thousands of students, strenghtening Jewish identities, building their connections with Israel, molding future generations of Jewish leadership.With nearly 3,500 Jewish students, Hillel becomes a home-away-from-home for students from the Chicago Metropolitan area, downstate Illinois, and around the world. On a daily basis, dozens of students relax at Hillel between classes or at the end of their day; staff members are frequently seen around campus delivering bowls of homemade chicken soup to sick students. Hillel also serves thousands of Shabbat dinners each year and hundreds of Hillel programs are attended by hundreds of students each month. The state-of-the-art facility, designed by the Chicago firm of Amstadter Architects, will include:
