                                                                                                  Executive Board Positions

                                                                                                  For All Positions:
                                                                                                  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly E-Board meetings (final schedule established at the start of the school year)
                                                                                                  • Make a conscious effort to support Hillel activities when able; special emphasis on Friday night dinner attendance
                                                                                                  • Approach Hillel work with an eye towards engagement, in support of building a dynamic and open Jewish community at U of I
                                                                                                  • Engage in pre-planning activities over the summer, including Hillel board orientation at the beginning of the school year
                                                                                                  • For President: At least one previous year of experience on the Hillel Leadership Council

                                                                                                  1. President
                                                                                                    1. Preside at all meetings of the Executive Board and the Leadership Council.
                                                                                                    2. Act as a liaison between the Student Leadership and staff, students on campus, Hillel International, Hillels of Illinois, JUF, and CUJF; also serve on the Hillel Governing Board and attend meetings.
                                                                                                    3. Serve as a consistent public relations representative, in writing and through oral presentations to local Jewish and community organizations, RSOs, local and Jewish community events, and publications.
                                                                                                    4. Provide training for all Student Leadership members in the form of Student Leadership materials from previous years and workshops.
                                                                                                    5. Attend meetings and keep correspondence with all council committees.
                                                                                                    6. Reach out to Hillel affiliated groups to include in Hillel Leadership Council.
                                                                                                    7. Maintain communication with the Hillel Program staff and attend program meetings.
                                                                                                  2. Treasurer
                                                                                                    1. Manage the Hillel Leadership Council RSO account
                                                                                                      1. Mark out SORF deadlines in the beginning of the year and make them available to programs within Hillel so that they can apply for funding; fill out SORF requests on behalf of Hillel programming by the deadlines set by SORF
                                                                                                      2. Make deposits and payments of funds requiring the use of the RSO account
                                                                                                      3. Request a balance statement from the RSO/SORF office every 2 weeks to monitor the account balance.
                                                                                                      4. Complete RSO registration and workshops/quizzes at the beginning of the year with the Treasurer.
                                                                                                    2. Manage the Hillel Student Leadership budget as allocated from the Illini Hillel program budget, including:
                                                                                                      1. Creating a budget at the beginning of the year and update expenses/revenues as the year progresses.
                                                                                                      2. Having a list available to the Leadership Council of events that could get funding from SORF.
                                                                                                    3. Work closely with all major program committee chairs and the Program Vice President during initial program planning process to create and implement per-program budgets, planned expenditures and income (ensuring efficient use of program funds).
                                                                                                    4. Serve as a resource for Hillel-affiliated RSO Treasurers.
                                                                                                    5. Assist in the application of grants or other fundraising efforts for Hillel Student Leadership initiatives.
                                                                                                  3. Programming Vice President
                                                                                                    1. Serve in the capacity of the President in the absence of the President.
                                                                                                    2. Have regular meetings with Hillel’s President and/or Program Director to propose all the programs that the board has come up with to get them approved.
                                                                                                    3. Ensure that all Hillel Student Leadership programs are properly planned and implemented; provide program-planning resources to students in the Hillel community.
                                                                                                    4. Ensure a balance of offerings on the Illini Hillel program calendar to meet UIUC Hillel’s goal of pluralism.
                                                                                                    5. Supervise and support program-specific committees and/or chairmanships that may include:
                                                                                                      1. Social Programming
                                                                                                      2. Tzedek (Community Service/Social Action) Programming
                                                                                                      3. Israel Advocacy Programming
                                                                                                      4. Alternative Spring Break
                                                                                                  4. Jewish Life Vice President
                                                                                                    1. Ensure that the Hillel Student Leadership is fostering a pluralistic and safe culture for Jewish students.
                                                                                                    2. Facilitate opportunities for students to explore their Jewish identity by planning programs and building relationships
                                                                                                    3. Facilitate the pluralistic ritual needs of the Jewish student community by identifying and utilizing local and national resources, working with community members to plan programs, etc.
                                                                                                    4. Incorporate Judaism into aspects of other formal and informal programming.
                                                                                                    5. Connect members of Hillel Student Leadership to resources incorporating Jewish content or values into their work.
                                                                                                    6. Supervise and support committees and/or Chairmanships to help fulfill the above duties, including:
                                                                                                      1. Minyan Leaders
                                                                                                      2. Holiday Ritual Planning
                                                                                                      3. Friday Night Coordinator
                                                                                                      4. If one of the above positions are not filled, it becomes the responsibility of the Jewish Life VP to fill the position and make sure the needed religious event occurs.
                                                                                                  5. Outreach Vice President
                                                                                                    1. Partner with outside organizations (RSOs, departments, religious groups) to provide multi-cultural, social, and educational programming in partnership with the Programming Vice President.
                                                                                                    2. Plan and organize multicultural and interfaith opportunities for the Hillel Community
                                                                                                    3. Work with Engagement Coordinator to identify Jewish micro-communities and ensure that their needs are met in collaboration with the rest of Student Leadership Council, including:
                                                                                                      1. First year students
                                                                                                        1. This includes ensuring that beginning of the year freshmen programming takes place, such as Bagels in Bed, help with Quad Day, reaching out to dorms, freshman BBQ, etc.
                                                                                                      2. Upperclassmen (21+)
                                                                                                      3. LGBT and Allies
                                                                                                      4. Residents of Residence Halls
                                                                                                      5. Members of Jewish Greek houses
                                                                                                      6. Jews in non-Jewish Greek houses
                                                                                                      7. Post-Gap Year Students (Israel)
                                                                                                      8. Israelis/Israel Advocates
                                                                                                      9. Birthright Alum
                                                                                                    4. Supervise and support committees and/or Chairmanships to help fulfill the above duties, including:
                                                                                                      1. Resident Halls
                                                                                                      2. Multi-cultural/Interfaith
                                                                                                      3. LGBT/Allies
                                                                                                  6. Greek Life Vice President
                                                                                                    1. Work with VP Outreach on coordinating Greek events for Jews in both Jewish and non-Jewish houses.
                                                                                                    2. Must be affiliated with a campus Greek organization.
                                                                                                    3. Publicize Jewish, Israel, Hillel, all-community and large-scale of interest events to Greeks by giving dinner announcements and maintaining relationships with individuals in the Greek houses
                                                                                                    4. Identify Greek philanthropies interested in partnership
                                                                                                    5. Work with Engagement Coordinator to plan and implement annual large-scale activities such as Greek Iron Chef and Greek Shabbat across campus
                                                                                                    6. Supervise and support three or four representatives from other Jewish houses to help with these tasks
                                                                                                  7. Secretary
                                                                                                    1. Write press releases for major Hillel Student Leadership initiatives.
                                                                                                    2. Web-site maintenance
                                                                                                      1. Work with the Program Intern to update the calendar with planned Hillel events
                                                                                                      2. Maintain and update the Hillel Student Leadership section of the Illini Hillel web-site in conjunction with the Program Intern
                                                                                                      3. Create and publish minutes of Hillel Student Leadership Executive Council for public access.
                                                                                                    3. Compile and periodically collect all non-Hillel Student Leadership calendars and help coordinate board participation in Hillel, university, all-community and other events in collaboration with the Outreach, Programming, and Greek Vice Presidents
                                                                                                    4. Assist in compiling an agenda for Exec Meetings.
