Last August, my first event that I attended with Illini Hillel was bowling with the incoming freshman in the suburbs of Chicago. I met so many people there, and had an incredible time. I didn't realize that many of the people I spent only a few hours with one evening in Deerfield would become some of my closest friends at college. I gained those close friendships because of going to events with Hillel.
My freshman year would have been completely different if it hadn't been for the friends I have made through Illini Hillel. From bowling back in August, to the Water Pong tournament just this week, I have made so many close friendships that will last me through college and beyond. I am certain that if I had neglected to go to bowling last August, or Shabbat nearly every Friday, or Bagel Brunch on Sundays, I would have missed out on the most important opportunities to make memories and friendships that will last me a lifetime.
