The second I walk in the door I am greeted with a friendly smile and a hello. While this may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, the nice gesture of always feeling welcomed is a comforting feeling. What really keeps me coming back to Hillel is the everlasting friendships that are created by the people who make this place what it is. The people who hang out around Hillel are so generous, caring, and easy to talk to that it is kind of hard not to make new friends. Hillel has given me so much. I know that I can get emotional support from any staff member at any time. I've seen myself grow as a person thanks to experiences I have encountered through Jewish life immersion and Hillel programming. Everything that I have received from Hillel has inspired me to give back to such a great organization so that future students can experience what I have experienced.
Previously, I was an engagement intern. This is probably the greatest work related responsibility I will ever have. My job entailed making new friends while showing off how great and comforting a place Hillel is (who doesn't want more friends?). Today, I am currently the Treasurer and Secretary of the Student Executive Board, where I hold all of the other student leaders accountable for their goals, regarding Illini Hillel, and also ensure funding from the University so that we can continue to have the best Jewish life programming in the country. I'm so happy to be giving back to the Illini Hillel community and would not trade my experiences here for the world.
