Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to join with 16 other students for Alternative Winter Break to impact the community of Champaign-Urbana. Throughout the week, we were able to volunteer with the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, Clark-Lindsey Retirement Home, Grace Church, Crisis Nursery, Habitat for Humanity, and Dr. Howard Elementary school. We also cleared a site in Washington, IL that was recently devastated by a tornado. I learned so much about local community needs and felt that I personally made a difference in at least a few lives that week. We also engaged in an activity called "Random Acts of Kindness." To me, this means that we should do simple things for others to brighten their day.
So this week, I invite all of you to partake in a "Random Act of Kindness." Sit next to somebody new in class, tell somebody they are wonderful, hold the door open for someone or even buy the next person's coffee. Go ahead, make somebody's day, because kindness is contagious.
