I'm not sure if you know this, but I'm slightly obsessed with The Beatles. The above quote is one of my favorites and it's from the song "It's all too much." It reminds us that all the world is precious and delicious (like cake), but that we need to share the cake and shouldn't eat it all.
In my 3.5 years of working at Hillel, I've realized that this quote fits the world of Hillel. Hillel is a cake - it's delicious, wonderful and fun. And there are even different "flavors" of Hillel that some students like more than others. Some like Israel-related programs, some like social programs. But regardless of your favorite, there is a "flavor" out there for everyone. Maybe you want to learn more about Israel, so stop by Zionist Food For Thought. Or maybe you want to learn more about Judaism, well, then stop by Midrash and Meal. So I encourage everyone -- since it's the beginning of the semester -- take time and try different flavors and see what you like. And for those students who already have their favorite flavor, try something new and different. Who knows, maybe you actually do like red-velvet cake!
Good luck with the new semester and remember with a new semester comes something new, different and amazing.
Wow, all this talk of cake is making me hungry!
