As we near finals, this quote sang to me (See what I did there?). Music has always been there for me as an outlet to relieve my stress and, in ways, meditate. After a long day of classes, meetings, quizzes, and homework, I like to have at least one break in the day that I can just sing along to my favorite tunes. It's my way of unwinding and helps me keep on trucking when I stay up at ungodly hours.
For those who know me well, I am an over-analyzer of music. I try to pick up on the lyrics, the harmonies, the instrument usage, and the list goes on. It's become my hobby in addition to something that gets me through my stressful semester. While studying this week, I noticed myself constantly hitting the replay button on my phone to play the song Stressed Out by TwentyOne Pilots (if any of you haven't heard the song, I suggest you give it a listen). The title not only reflected on how I was feeling at that specific moment in time, but it also reminded me that plenty of other people are going through the same feelings. In ways, that comforted me by knowing that I am not going through a tough semester alone. There are plenty of other people that have their one semester of the struggles and that for me this semester was just an obstacle that I had to overcome. Furthermore, there are always going to be people in your life that will help you get through it.
As we slowly but surely drive closer to finals, I'm sure most of you will feel stressed out. So as a suggestion, when you are swamped with studying take a listen to your favorite tunes. Music for me is therapeutic and can be one way among many others to de-stress.
