I am so excited to inform you that this upcoming week will be Israel Week on campus. For me, this is the most exciting week of the year. I’ve looked forward to it since last year, when I was a freshman. To be a part of a University wide celebration and to walk on the quad and see so many students celebrating Israel’s birthday is something that I will never forget, and look forward to again this year.
What better time to celebrate Israel than the week after we finish celebrating our exodus from Egypt! While our ancestors were slaves in Egypt, they dreamed of coming to a land of their own, free of oppression. As we know from the Torah, most of those adult slaves never lived to see the Israelites return to Israel. This week we will be celebrating something that most of them never had the opportunity to: the existence of a sovereign Jewish state that we can call our own. I cannot wait to experience this exciting time once again, and I encourage all of you to join me in the celebrations!
